Great news - and a tribute to a lot of people's hard work, including councillors and our own Garry Mooore

The following two amendments to the Christchurch City Council's Letter of Expectations passed unanimously today!

Hopefully this helps secure great union relationships at Lyttelton Port and keeps operations under direct management (rather than leasing out, which seems to be a persistent rumour)!

1. Council requests that CCHL as part of its Statement of Intent’ acknowledges that it and its subsidiaries are owned either wholly or by majority by Christchurch City Council on behalf of the Community and it will conduct itself in a manner and make decisions that are consistent with public ownership being retained. Council also expects that CCHL will engage with Council before progressing any proposed significant change to it, or its subsidiaries operating models.

2. Council expects CCHL and its subsidiaries to act as a good employer fostering relationships of good faith and promoting the Object (section 2) of the Employment Relations Act 2000. This should include strong employee and union relationships, support collective bargaining, improve health and safety, and maintain its commitment to a directly employed workforce at LPC. Noting, Council is not supportive of the leasing out of our port operations or any other significant operations involving directly employed staff.
