When the hell are we as the ratepayers of Christchurch going to be asked our thoughts on amalgamation?
Rosemary adds: I was appalled by a recent Press article about who is going to the the billion plus assets of Environment Canterbury. The conversation should be about how are we going to manage protecting our environment, plan for climate change, develop and grow public transport and strengthen our communities.
Quite frankly the comments by our mayor have been pathetic. In conversations with him this article seemed to summarise his approach perfectly.
We have a government totally committed to destroying local government. Unless we are asked what our opinions are so a logical solution, which embraces what the government wants and what we can live with locally, then some technocrat in Wellington will decide it for us.
Garry has offered the mayor to bring together a community meeting on the topic.
