I heard a friend once say that we are witnessing the demise of the American Empire, just as Empires have come and gone before. There’s been some amazing analysis of the USA election results and like most I’m watching things evolve with great interest. Are we witnessing neo-liberalists last stand?
I read this book during the year: The Invisible Doctrine: The Secret History of Neoliberalism (& How It Came To Control Your Life)
And I found it summarised the economic theory that I didn’t like when it was imposed on the world, and now despise. The summary of the book states:
A short anatomy of neoliberalism that shatters its founding myths and points the way to an alternative system.
We live under an ideology that preys on every aspect of our lives- our education and our jobs; our healthcare and our leisure; our relationships and our mental wellbeing; the planet we inhabit – the very air we breathe. So pervasive has it become that, for most people, it has no name. It seems unavoidable, like a natural law. \
But trace it back to its roots, and we discover that it is neither inevitable nor immutable. It was conceived, propagated, and then concealed by the powerful few. Our task is to bring it into the light-and to build a new system that is worth fighting for.
Well, I’m hoping that Trump will demonstrate that this economic theory is ready for the rubbish bin, and we need to support those struggling to find an alternative. Unfortunately, this does not seem to include the current leadership of the Left in NZ.
I have a German relative, and he said to me recently that Trump demonstrates many of the same attributes which drove Hitler. I am reading a book titled “Hitler’s People”, the faces of the Third Reich by Richard J Evans and my reading has been punctuated with “oh my goodness, that’s just what Trump did….”
I read this summary of a narcissist :
As described by researchers Nathanson, Paulthus, and Williams, “Those high in narcissism are characterised by grandiosity, entitlement, and a sense of superiority over others…
Such individuals are arrogant, self-centred, and consistently self-enhancing… Individuals high in Machiavellianism are characterised by cynicism and the manipulation of others…these individuals exploit a wide range of duplicitous tactics to achieve their self-interested goals.
Last weekend Trump flew to France, and I think this photo says it all as he was greeted by Prince William, who was taught to be polite. Even to complete pricks.
Anyway, here’s what happened to the Statute of Liberty, gifted by the people of France.
