This week the Tuesday Club will meet on Wednesday – usual time 5 for 5.30pm start.
I have sufficient Irish genes to say this makes absolute sense. That’s because Tuesday is Waitangi Day, a public holiday. We also have an opportunity to welcome Professor Ella Henry, Ngātikahu ki Whangaroa, Ngāti Kuri, Te Rārawa.
Ella will be well known to RNZ listeners. Last week on the panel, on discovering the South Island is not well known to her, Garry invited her to Christchurch
She has a background across multiple disciplines including sociology, business, and Māori Indigenous development. She has been actively involved in research, teaching, and advocacy for Māori media for over twenty years. Ella was a Treaty Negotiator for her Iwi, Ngātikahu ki Whangaroa, and has been involved with the Post-Settlement Governance Entity, as Trustee and Chair, until her appointment as Director of Māori Advancement for the Business School.
Ella will be attending the Waitangi Day celebrations at Waitangi the day before our gathering and will address the issue of just what is happening within Māori in New Zealand from her perspective. Ella has a robust and engaging personality and will be a great speaker to start the Tuesday Club year. On Wednesday.
