Last week the two speakers complemented each other really well. Lee Beatie is an urban designer and Ian Munro is a planner. They had a well thought out presentation which they intended to work through. The audience had other opinions however, and part way into their talk the first question emerged from the floor and it was all downhill for them from there. Our two speakers were introduced to the fact that those who turn out to the Tuesday Club are well informed and prepared to share their views with any speaker. Whether they want to hear it or not!
One issue which emerged from the discussion was that people are passionately committed to deeply considering the matter of CCC’s urban form. The matter of the City of Christchurch being the consolidation of 52 Councils got a few people’s interests. We will try and identify what these Councils were. Does anybody have any idea of where we could start?
Our two speakers gave back as much as they were fed and ended up, having abandoned their slides, saying that they wish that Auckland had the same sort of thing as the Tuesday Club. The talk was stimulating and on a topic we have to go back to many times.
