I know the former Auditor General, Martin Matthews, and like him a lot. He received a shabby treatment by the committee of Parliamentarians whose task is to act judiciously, and in the interests of this Country. Instead they allowed trial by media to sway them and they carried out their responsibility, in my opinion and that of a number of senior lawyers, badly.
I support Martin Matthews’ attempt to clear his name. This week Stuff re-opened this case and delved into the details of the woman who duped everybody she came across. The Parliamentarians appear to have dealt superficially with this matter, rather than in detail. The office of Auditor General should be above mere political whims, and on this matter this important and independent office was dragged into parliamentary warfare.
