I have a German relative who, as we discussed Trump for the umpteenth time, recommended that I read about the men behind Hitler. He said this would inform me on the sort of people behind Trump. The book read like a blueprint of the manifesto for the 2025 document driving those behind Trump. In my opinion an obvious face of evil in the Trump administration is Steven Millar: Here’s a quote from one article I read:
Much of the safety-related frustration expressed by the Times’ sources could be traced back to Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller’s demand that agents arrest 3,000 immigrants per day. Previous administrations took a more targeted approach, including spending several days conducting surveillance and identifying the safest way to make an arrest.
Thanks to Miller’s arrest quota, there’s no time for that type of careful preparation, according to the Times.
In another article the author wrote:
By these accounts, the clear, immediate cause of the chaos is Miller’s arbitrary, febrile target setting. Firing him and rescinding his ridiculous demands would be a good start. His poison-dripping power-drunk malicious influence needs to be removed from Trump’s orbit.
In this article https://www.thepress.co.nz/nz-news/360937779/americans-have-fought-back-against-authoritarianism-home it was written:
The first year of Donald Trump’s second term has been marked by increasing authoritarianism at the heart of the US federal government. He has openly defied court orders, worked beyond the established remit of executive power and is making no secret of his strongman ambitions. History tells us that such an authoritarian presence is not new and offers a blueprint for how it might be overcome.
This authoritarianism is being driven behind the scenes by operators like Millar.
In the article the commentator reverted to quoting President Roosevelt who left 3 lessons for US citizens:
- that the momentum generated by a growing popular coalition can be harnessed in national politics.
- that bold and principled leadership brings reward
- that elections can be the harbinger of significant and substantive change.
In the Listener a correspondent, Jonathan Kronstadt, wrote;
“Just as this handful of perverted souls have stabbed democracy until it’s on life support, so history has shown us that a single act can spark a flame that immolates evil”
One of the many worries about what is happening in a country I have long admired, and where I have many relatives and friends, is the insidious brown nosing to Trump by the high-tech moguls. It is absolutely in their financial interests to comply with the narcissist leader of this great country.
In this article https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/feb/02/propaganda-in-cinemas-newsrooms-slashed-this-is-the-us-media-under-trump-and-his-tech-barons it was reported:
In the other, the Washington Post is set to cut up to 200 jobs early this month, including the majority of its foreign staff and a sizeable chunk of its newsroom. Both Melania and the Washington Post are backed by Jeff Bezos. His two decisions, to invest in state propaganda and divest from the fourth estate that supposedly holds power to account, reveal much about how capital and authoritarianism join forces to decide what audiences read and see.
Trouble is afoot at another legacy US media outlet, CBS News. In July of last year, tech billionaire and Donald Trump ally Larry Ellison and his Hollywood producer son, David, took over Paramount, which oversees CBS News. The former New York Times columnist and, more recently, founder of anti-woke blog the Free Press, Bari Weiss, was parachuted in to run CBS News. She promptly ran into trouble, as she took on veterans of a channel that produces such storied programmes as 60 Minutes, and tried to justify editorial decisions that were seen as slanted in favour of the Trump administration. Weiss is now also expected to make cuts to the newsroom.
Rosemary adds – I think it is misleading to call these people evil, they are in their own way principled – just different principles rule – power and money if given the freedom they need will solve the worlds problems. Of course the results are evil, but perhaps it is more accurate to wonder why we allow this evil to flourish.
there goes any hope of ever getting a visa for the USA, even if I wanted to 🙂
