I really enjoy Shamubeel’ s thinking. So, it was interesting to read this article this week in Stuff from Shamubeel Eaqub commenting on the pros and cons of lockdowns. He stated:
Level 2 restrictions did not have a big impact on the economy, but level 3 reduced economic activity by around 30 per cent. We can expect the hit to activity to be a little lower this time, because businesses and the public will know how to navigate these restrictions better than before.
It will be hard, but worth it
Lockdowns are meant to stop the virus, and will also stop much economic activity. Support mechanisms through new extensions on the wage subsidy, and existing support programmes will be needed by many businesses to navigate this difficult period.
If we repeat our health and economic experience of the last lockdown, we will come out better off economically, and without littering our conscience with lost lives.
