I am sorry, but I need to take issue with you on the house in South Auckland.
I put it to you and club members, this is exactly the sort of thing that needs to happen to allow Auckland or Christchurch or other NZ cities to realise Jim Lundy’s excellent vision of a city of villages. This house is currently a single dwelling on land that deserves better utilisation. Land that can and should be a home to many more. In a short time, it will have seven dwellings with a land price of only $200,000 each, all within walking distance of parks, shops, a community centre and a train station.
It is a small part of a village-ification that we need.
My concern with the process is that our quarter acre lots make it very difficult for this to happen in a way that creates the best village-built environment. As a society we need to invent a new approach that allows half a dozen of such lots to be converted at one time, allowing the creation of a beautiful little enclave. This is currently almost impossible.
My apology Rod. I hate to admit it, but I think you are correct.
