I have written before about a brilliant housing leader in Northland, Ricky Houton. On Monday morning last week Ricky was interviewed by Kathryn Ryan. He wasn’t able to get everything he is doing across. But, the most interesting piece was Kathryn speaking to a woman who is starting the process of moving into her own home with a rent-to-buy scheme.
This woman ticked every box in the list of challenges. She is getting off drugs. She has lived in their van in Auckland. Her partner has been in prison. Her children have been taken from her. Despite all these obstacles she is being supported into a place where they can own their own home.
Have a listen to this and ask yourself why not put this sort of support into place in every town and city in this Country: https://www.rnz.co.nz/audio/player?audio_id=2018712432
