Anybody who is around community support agencies will tell you that their government funding is either reduced or gone.
This is a result of the Minister of Finance cutting government expenditure. Her philosophy is shallow and economically stupid, and the impact of her decisions is destroying the delicate fabric of community agencies from North Cape to Bluff.
The government agencies are dealing with Ministers who are poll driven fruitcakes. Minister who only respond to bad publicity. However, I suspect that staff in head offices of government departments are cutting community funding and looking after themselves and their jobs.
Just visit any agency working at the front line in health, poverty, environmental protection, prison support, education, you name it, they all are either closing or have reduced services. We need these agencies.
The government needs these agencies. Next year we will highlight the work of the wonderful people struggling to support those in our community and their need for financial assistance.
