This week we have a panel of Carl Davidson, Jim Lunday and Councillor Sara Templeton who chairs the Sustainability and Community Resilience Committee of CCC.
We are asking Tuesday Club members to consider a question….
Cities are built on a triangle of emotional inter dependencies.
People + Place + Emotional Connections.
The earthquakes removed the ‘Place’ and this fractured the existing emotional connections. These research figures won’t change until new emotional connections develop.
These can be curated through proactive leadership which links the old with the new, or allows ‘Christchurch’s old heart to beat inside its new skin’. Or they can be left to grow organically over time. But it’s unrealistic to simply expect what is now to be embraced while there’s no clear connections built to what was.
This is about the emotional environment not the physical one…
Before you come onto Zoom this week, we want everybody to imagine how, not what, we can create a new skin for the City.
It might be a preposterous idea which you have been secretly thinking about on your own. Share it. We have to up our game as a City. WE have to move beyond being embarrassed about what we are. This City has led in so many fields for so long. Now let’s work on getting our mojo back.
