We need to have a conversation about housing…
I have heard some disturbing stories about Community Housing Agencies, and support agencies of the State, having difficulty getting community by-in to their proposals to build housing for their tenants. This has to be challenged.
I know it is every resident’s right to hear about what is being proposed for their area. However, the “not-in-my-backyard” type thinking is far too prevalent. I was shocked to read the article below where a group of residents in Beckenham was objecting to public rental housing being built in their street.
Recently we heard of the Justice Department having problem with neighbours with one of their facilities. In a few weeks I will attend the opening of a new housing complex on the site of the old Anglican hospital in Guild Street. I will write about this in the next couple of weeks.
