I was impressed how quickly Alister James replied to me last Sunday night clarifying the information on James Daniels being the second Ngai Tahu person on the CCC. It turns out he is the first. Here is what Alister wrote:
James Daniels is the first person of Ngai Tahu descent to be elected a Christchurch City Councillor.
Hori Brennan was 1986-89 and was Tuwharetoa, his late wife and through her, their children, were of course Ngai Tahu (Tuahuriri). Albie Orme 1971-74 had tribal affiliations to Te Arawa and Ngati Awa. Both served just one term.
I attended Shirley BHS, James was a year ahead behind me, and David East a year ahead, and I am now 66 years of age. I guess they must be about 65 and 67 years respectively.
