John Patterson sent me this report from the trenches of Parklands:
When I go out for a walk now everybody speaks to each other as they pass at the appropriate distance apart and people passing in a car wave, a police car passed me today and both the policemen waved.
It’s like it was when we first arrived in Southland in 1974. This afternoon I was walking along a street and on the opposite side there was a young lad on an upstairs balcony. He had a toy rifle and when he saw me, he pointed it at me. I had my stick so I pointed it at him. He pretended to fire then went behind the curtains so when he came out again, I fired at him.
So, there was an 83-year-old man and a 7-year-old lad playing soldiers in the street in the middle of a lockdown during a pandemic.
Was this stupid or was it wonderful????
