Recently Dr Jane Shearer wrote this challenging article in Newsroom about what Christchurch could be like in 100 years and asking what we have to do as a society to plan for this. We invited Jane to share some of her thoughts for the Tuesday Club.
Jane Shearer trained as a scientist and works helping researchers get funding for their projects – she reads and writes about a broad range of cutting-edge ideas and innovations. Jane loves philosophical thinking, gardening, landscaping, song writing, guitar, skiing, reading, mountains, science and research, house design, travelling interesting places, mountain biking, and writing. She blogs weekly at https://www.janeshearer.com/blog about an issue of the week, ranging from creepypasta to the sustainability (or not) of AI to whether baskets or trays are better in dishwashers.
Jane’s recently published novel, Threads of Connection, considers a near future Christchurch from the perspective of climate change challenges and the importance of community. How do we move forward with climate change, and the polycrisis, looming over us? We all need to find answers and getting together to talk about the future is critical to creating the best one possible
